Why is it that movies lately are nothing like they used to be? Every new movie I see I leave feeling somewhat cheated. What happened to following some sort of plot and not just trying to fit as much cool looking stuff into an hour and a half as possible? We saw Tomb Raider last weekend.. and during most of the movie I was trying to figure out what the shots were.. it was all going by too fast. Some of it was cool looking even though half the time I had no idea what was going on. Also, last night we saw A.I. I don't really know how I feel about the movie yet.. other than the fact that it should have ended about half an hour before it actually did. Some parts were great.. really neat looking. They brought in some sub plot (or at least so I though) regarding a murder.. but they never really went anywhere with it.. much to my dismay. Now I'm left wondering what happened to Gigolo Joe.. did he get arrested for the murder? What do they do with robots whom they think have done some kind of criminal act? Did he get distroyed? What happened?! Inquiring minds want to know. Lots of movies are doing this lately.. they're just kind of all over the place like they're trying to fit too much into a short ammount of time. I mean sure, cool looking movies are great sometimes.. but I'm more interested in the story. What happened to good old movies that rely more on the whole story/plot thing than effects? Is it not possible to have a cool looking movie that also actually follows some kind of storyline? Obviously this reflects the way society is today or at least the majority. We've become very visually stimulated. We see more and think less. "Who cares if the story was lacking.. did you *SEE* how hot it was?!" I don't know, I guess I prefer my imagination. Not that I'm saying cool looking movies are bad or anything.. I mean sometimes I'm all about something that looks totally cool and that's about it.. but really, does *EVERY* new movie have to be that way?
