On tuesday night my truck got cleaned out. They took my stereo, my amp, my big speaker, my GPS unit, a carton of cigarettes and my checkbook. It looks like they popped the lock on the driver's side door by sticking a screwdriver or something into the metal of the door just above the key hole and prying it apart. They then proceded to take anything of even remote value from the cabin of the truck. Including my check book. My account has already been tagged as having lost or stolen chacks and they have had a stop payment put on them.
The first thing I did once I found out the crime had taken place, was call the police. After they transfered me around a few times, I was finally able to talk to someone who would take my statement. She quickly informed me that they do not send out officers to take a report for this type of thing, and she would be able to take the report over the phone. That made me feel like they don't give a shit. So after taking the report and telling me I was pretty much stupid to ever expect to see any of this stuff again she gave me my case number and hugn up. So then I called the apartment management office and bitched to them about the security gate that had been open for more then a week at night. I am pretty much convinced this is one of the reasons this crime happened. She told me that it wasn't their fault someone broke the gate by ramming it. Of course, no one is ever at fault.
After that, Erin noticed my check book was gone. So then I called the bank and got all that crpa out of the way. This morning she asked if my GPS was in the truck as well, I haden't even thought of that until then. So that is gone too. No more geocaching for us.
Needless to say, I am not happy. I only have liability insurance, so they won't cover the losses or even the damage to the door and lock. So I am left trying to figure out what I want to do. I need to call Ford Credit today and find out exactly how much I have left to pay on this truck. And then find out how much it is worth. If it is worth more then I have left to pay, my chances of using it as trade to get something better could be looking pretty good.
