The Avalanche re-signed star defenseman Derek Morris and four other players Thursday.
Joining Morris in signing one-year deals were defenseman D.J. Smith and forward Serge Aubin. Goaltender Phil Sauve signed a two-year deal while prospect Mikko Viitanen signed a three-year deal.
Morris, 24, established career-highs in goals (11), assists (36) and points (47) last season while finishing tied for seventh in scoring among NHL defenseman.
Smith, 26, appeared in a career-high 34 games for the Avalanche and had one goal and 55 penalty minutes.
Aubin, 28, had four goals, six assists and 64 penalty minutes in 66 games for the Avs.
Sauve, 23, played in the AHL last season but could be with the Avs this year following Patrick Roy's retirement.
