A work in progress: (for lack of anything better to post)
We are drowning in a sea of numbers.
We arch our backs and stretch out our arms as far as they will reach, and with all our heart we try to swim through a cold ocean of numbers, statistics, points and intrest rates.
Breathing rapidly, we swallow down salty figures with air and our lungs grow heavy. The taste of data chill and acrid.
How will we reach the shore? Is there even a shore left?
We cannot remember how it was that we got this far out from land. We have forgotten the horizon.
Ahh, the horizon. Where the Earth and sky cleave together, is the only true center of the world. No matter where we travel, no matter the changing landscape, the horizon is always the same.
Looking to the horizon we achieve perspective and become wise. Looking to the ground and to the sky separately we gain only abstract knowledge: particularities, details, so many pieces of an infinite broken puzzle.
But with perspective, fragments are joined and lines drawn. Extremes meet at the horizon, as do the fates of humankind. As earthbound mortals, the horizon is our only lasting perspective on human affairs.
The lines of the horizon are always equally relative and fixed. The horizon line is the only constant that changes from mountaintop to desert plateau, hillside to valley, from the inside of a fast travelling vehicle to the stationary seat of a rocking chair.
The horizon greets our inquisitive glance with an ancient answer. This far you are, any farther you are not.
The horizon makes distance less distant without drawing it unnaturally close. To lose sight of the horizon is to walk around spying the world as if through binoculars. The immediate becomes blurred beyond recognition. We mistake molehills for mountains. The far away lurks confusingly near. Tomorrow precedes today.
To lead a telescopic life is also to be close to others without feeling their warmth. To have proximity without community. Telepresence without presence of mind.
To drown in a dark sea of numbers, under a bottomless bright night sky.

Screw ICQ, I just found something 100 times cooler. It is called Odigo. It will import all of your ICQ contacts and even transmit to people who are not using the program, but are still using ICQ. I even has this little radar thing in it that will tell you is there are other Odigo users viewing the same web page as you in real time. I can't get over how cool this is.
You can read about it and download it (for free) from The Odigo Site.

God damn Gillian Anderson is sexy...

Someday I'll be the richest man.

I think I am part of the nicest guild in Everquest. The Viators rock my world. In the last 2 days they have helped me from my level 22 slump and given me two +2 wis earings and a silver ruby vail. Everyone just broke for dinner. After which we will be going back down into Guk and killing mean frogloks. Speaking of which, I should go get some food myself...
<-- 10:19 AM MT -->
Well look at this. Atroxi has made it into their local news program. Complete with comments from RedScare and Digital Fox. This makes me all fuzzy inside. Hey wait... I don't see Carlo in that picture!!!

That darn Schlyer. He put up his new design early and I keep forgetting to mention it. So now, in my EverQuest induced trance, I am about to pass out and want nothing more then some sleep, I remember it. Funny that. I am actually looking for reasons not to go to sleep. All week I have been dwelling on how nice it will be to sleep 12+ hours, and now that it is here I am making excuses not to get it going. Sleep is just wasted time that keeps you from going nuts anyway. Who needs that? If I wanted that I could just read some of my latest email. Well the wasted time anyway. I even got a threat to take a certain something down. Now that would be no fun at all...
<-- 9:47 AM MT -->
This scares me. It really really does.
<-- 9:15 AM MT -->
We got new business cards today at work. Too bad I won't be here long enough to actually use all 1000 of them. So the question is, what is a good use for 1000 little pieces of paper with my name on them? Maybe I can wallpaper my cube with them before I leave. Insanity comes easy when you are this close to a breakthrough.

Major lack of updates today. I have been a working fool tonight. So to make up for it I have changed the eye candy around here. So enjoy. I will do better tomorrow, I swear.

Moo. Moo I say!
<-- 7:38 AM MT -->
And just in case you missed it the first time:
So we get a community full of trash talking internet kids hopped up on the false sense of power that comes with your first taste of double-blind anonymity, IRC refugees now running sites that post pictures of fat chicks with irrelivant quotes under them, and miles of text trash talking other sites. All of this makes e/n very much akin to AOL chat rooms, and less of a weblog sub-genre.
<-- 7:35 AM MT -->
Wow. Someone must have found something and spread the word. My inbox is filling up with hate/flame mail. It is almost getting rhythemic:
Open email
Read "Dude, you don't know that the f*ck you are talking about..."
Right click
Kill file
It seems to me that these are the same people preaching "If you don't like it, don't read my site." One the other hand, I will be the first to admit that I am not e/n. Look at the trends. I don't follow many of them. Look at the bottom image here. Does that say weblog? Wait, does it? Yes. Yes I think it does. Not that I really think I fit in there either. There isn't even one link in this whole thing. Ah well, when I first started this I had no clue any of these other sites were around anyway. I have been a little more constructive for the last 3 years. I was running a support site for a UO Counselor team (blacksage.net) and converted what I learned there to my life once I quit as a counselor. So yeah, I tried running an e/n site and hated every minute of it. You can't get personal when you have other people talking on your site as well, and 12 updates in one day is just annoying to read. But that's ok. I am not you, I have my own opinion, and I will stick by it. Personally I would rather be a boring rip-off of another site then a site that is setting the standard for posting stupid womanizing crap every day.
All in all there is only one site I feel bad that I had not mentioned. Much love to Moo.Nothing. Fox is a great person, he is up there on the list of the coolest people I have ever met online. Thess' writing is great to read and always an eye opener. Can't say that about many sites these days.

Lots of game playing tonight. I think I was about middle of the road once again. Nothing special, but I wan't bad either. There were these two guys who just whumped on all of us hands down. I am very tired now. Some email responding and some sleep should hit the spot...
In my mad rush to get to bed last night, I must have posted that little thing about the Atroxi web site right before they updated. So I read now (on their site and in my email box) that mr. "painting in a dark room all alone" KillKrazy himself did that layout. But hey, I can still commend Atroxi for using the services of such a master at his art. You know, I was thinking last night that the 3 pictures of the guys was looking just a little too much wtwd-ish. Now we know why! :)

Atroxi is live again tomorrow night. You have 24 hours notice. I expect you to be there. Don't make me send Gorgo over to you house to SMASH! It wouldn't be pretty...

Today is soft and slow. Looking at all these people rush around, I feel soft and still. I want to thank you for taking me from my monistary, I was dying to get out. Like they handed me my life, for the first time it feels right. I am ready to do the frag pipe. They tell me it is going to be a lot of hard work. I disagree. It is going to be a lot of very fun hard work. I am more than willing to start as soon as I can.
Oh yeah, my sound effect for him: KA-BLOOOOOOOIE!

I just realized Chris left me a message and I never called him back. He is going to be pissed in the morning. But anyway, my weekly account of the Simpsons and the X-Files. I thought the Simpsons was really good. Even down to the sarcasm at the end. Bart calls into FOX's telethon and pledges $10,000. The lady on the other end says "Thank you, with your pledge of $10,000, you have saved our network!" To which bart replies (camera zoomed in on his face) "It isn't the first time lady..."
Then we have the X-Files. This was the COPS style episode. In some ways I feel this was amazing. I don't know if Chris Carter is trying to prove how versitile he is or something, but it was interesting to see the contect of the show ported to another (very different) format. On the other side of the coin, I felt it was a bit labored. Obviously it wasn't meant to pass off as a real episode of COPS, but the acting was really bad. I also noticed that they stayed away from any of the police or camera crew actually getting killed. Interesting angle. All in all it was good, but I think it could have been much better. Thinking back it reminded me of a cross between COPS and The Blair Witch Project. With Mulder and his wit thrown into the whole thing.
<-- 11:49 AM MT -->
This is an interesting morning already. I have been hit with the creative stick or something. Already I have ideas for my next project, along with a few things I might do in the future. So many ideas, so little time to accomplish half of them.
I do want to mention one thing though. I had cut a part out of my What is e/n? thing. I had gone off about the attitudes that run rampant. I cut this from the final draft in the idea that it was not helping keep the entire thing subjective. But you know what? Screw that. Here is what I cut from it:

What the hell is a weblog? Heck if I know.
But then, What is e/n? That I have an opinion on.
While I don't really follow the "rules" of what makes a site e/n, I feel these sites prompted me to do what I do now. It was only a few months ago that I actually found a whole slew of weblogs. I had no clue.
So anyway, call this what you want, but in reality it is my way of trying to forget about design for a while. I needed to write or I would have redesigned again. And I like my site right now. So I have to keep my mind off of it. I am sure my little essay is going to piss some people off though. maybe I will even get "haxx0rd."

"How about the six dead guys in stupid costumes?"

Anyone remember that Clearly Canadian beverage with the floating balls in it? Sure you do, it was called Orbitz. I remember when I bought 2 bottles of them. It must have been about four years ago now. Anyway, I was looking through some of the boxes I never bothered to unpack last time I moved appartments, and guess what I found. An unopened "Pineapple Banana Cherry Coconut" flavored bottle. Funny, mine only has the white balls in it though. AND THEY STILL FLOAT. This scares me on so many levels.
It is now sitting on the top of my desk's monitor enclosure. Like a sterile lava lamp. A tribute to my youth. Am I cracking up?

Wow. Quoteth Carolyn:
"Speaking of mouseovers, not only does Slightly North of Tomorrow use them well, but the pictures are luscious..."
I have actually gotten a lot of requests asking how I did all of this. Well, to make it easy, I use Adobe ImageStyler. And I listen to a lot of Mineral while I am creating images. I don't know what it is, but they get me in the right mood. I can't stop once I start.
I think this is a sign. My own flavor of insanity.

Well, I am not the "news media" so the Pepsi Center would not give me the All Star logo. SO I had to resort to stealing it from their web page via screen shots. So if it looks like hell you can blame them for making me resort to this tactic. Anyway, here it is:
The 2001 All Star Game Logo!

Now lets hope I don't get in trouble for this. Posting mp3's scares me.
<-- 9:44 PM MT -->
I have been searching all evening for a song. After being led down the wrong path (Greg told me it was called Tubular Bells) I have finally found it. But what is IT? It is a hard to find song by Apotheosis called "Fortuna." From what I understand, it is a techno remix of a song by the same title from Carmina Burana. The story I heard was that Apotheosis got sued shortly after the release of their remix and it was pulled off of store shelves. Hence the reason it is so hard to find. As soon as I can find a copy in MP3 form that has a bitrate better then 98 I will post it somewhere around here for a brief time. Just in case you are wondering what the hell I am talking about.

The Atroxi.com show was really good tonight. I even got a good night song from Carlos. It was folky. It was good stuff though. Made me not want to leave. But I have to go to sleep so I can function tomorrow. Working at 8am is lame, but soon I won't have to do that anymore. The Frag Pipe will save me.

So I watched the Avs game tonight. Not too bad, although they are in danger of losing their 3rd seed playoff position if they don't turn things around. They lost tonight, although they did aquire 3 points as a team.
So I turn on over to FOX and what do I see? Who wants to watch a millionare be a retarded loser? What are we going to see next? FOX is quickly setting them selves up to be the first station to do a real life "running man." This really really scares me.
So rather then watch yet another big stakes game show, I am watching "Mystery Men" on DVD. I love this movie. Cheese and comedy. Oh, and Janeane... *drool*

Oh yeah, I didn't leave work at 4pm today after all. By the time I got everything done it was quarter till 5. So then I decided I was going to go to bed early. Of course, I had to do some work setting up a script on The Frag Pipe. So now it is 10:30pm, and I am about to drop. You know, I even told jeff from Atroxi that white text was the tool of the devil. I was just looking over my latest debit card bill. For some odd reason I have 2 charges for $59.99 in less then 2 weeks. The ID on the charge had a web URL, so off I went. Well, turns out it is a *gasp* adult site!! Now, I'm won't even try to lie and say that have never bought a membership to an adult site. I mean, would anyone believe it anyway? But I am VERY sure I have never EVER signed up for a site that charges $59.99 every 2 weeks. Does this bother anyone else? So anyway, I called their support and pled my case. I got them to "cancel my membership," block my credit card number, AND (big one here) credit 2 charges of $59.99 to my card. I don't know how this happened in the first place. Aren't card numbers so random that no two are even within one number of eachother? At least I think I read that somewhere. Oh well, that made my day none the less.

Rage. Why I had to come to work at 7am on a Monday morning is beyond me. The task I had to do could have easily been done friday afternoon. Yet, the administration around here feels that I need to do it at 7am even though my job hours are actually 8am-5pm. So yeah, I'm f***king leaving at 4pm today. This is such a waste of my time. New career here I come. The Frag Pipe is going to be sweet. Soon it will start to turn a profit and I will no longer be a lowly employee. I will be my own boss and loving life once again.
I guess I am eating my words now.

Colorado Avalanche and City of Denver to Host 2001 NHL All-Star Weekend
The Colorado Avalanche and the city of Denver have been selected by the National Hockey League to host the 2001 NHL All-Star Weekend, Feb. 3-4, 2001. The NHL also unveiled the 2001 NHL All-Star logo commemorating the League's 51st NHL All-Star celebration. The logo takes creative inspiration from the club's primary mark with the center dominated by a giant star encircled by a silver avalanche of stars streaming from the top.
The 2001 NHL All-Star Weekend will include NHL All-Star Saturday, which traditionally has included the Heroes of Hockey Game and NHL SuperSkills Competition, and NHL All-Star Sunday, which will feature the NHL's greatest players facing-off in the 51st NHL All-Star Game. NHL FANtasy, the League's interactive hockey theme park and festival, will highlight NHL All-Star Weekend for the sixth consecutive season and will be staged at the Denver Convention Center from Jan. 31 through Feb. 4.
The 51st NHL All-Star Game will be broadcast on ABC in the United States and SRC and CBC in Canada. NHL All-Star Saturday will be aired on ESPN in the United States and on SRC and CBC in Canada. Further details on the 2001 NHL All-Star Weekend, including ticket information, will be released at a later date. Media interested in obtaining a copy of the logo may call the Colorado Avalanche Creative Services department at (303) 405-1100.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This is the best news I have heard all week! I will get that logo... oh yes, I will get that logo...

Want more of me? For the next few weeks I will be over here as well as this site. I will be hepling keep Dennis' site from going stale while he is moving into his new house.

Has anyone else noticed how "in" it is to not want hits for your site these days? I don't know how many emails I have read over on the [list-en] mailing list. More and more I am reading sites that say they don't want hits either. Now, what the hell is the good of a webpage if you don't get hits? If that is really what you want, take your page off-line and write everything in Wordpad. You are only lying to yourself when you say on your public webpage that you don't want hits.
<-- 12:17 PM MT -->
Noise noise noise... I registered 2 domains in as many days now. Things are really starting to pick up around here. First, I am doing a site for a bar called The Barrel House. Second, well, no. That is top secret for now. But we have one investor already. He is committing $20,000 as long as he isn't the only one. Tomorrow is going to be "work on the business plan" day.

I get to go to the hockey game tonight. I got last minute tickets. Avalanche vs. Flames. WOOT!
<-- 5:46 PM MT -->
*braces himself* I just downloaded the new Madonna song, titled "American Pie." First of all, I am a sucker for cover songs. I love em and can't get enough. That being said, I think this is some of Madonna's best work. Sure, it isn't a new song, but it does convey just how much she has progressed in her career. I love the more techno sound she is starting to use. It is a hell of a lot better then her early stuff.
I guess the big point here is this. Almost any classic rock song sounds a million times better with a techno twist to it. Classic rock is worse then disco in my opinion. So there!

"And, no, I'm not very good at this website designing thing. I don't know HTML or any other programming language and I made this in Frontpage 98 with Paint Shop Pro for the images. Students can't afford Photoshop. (Mom, Dad, if you're reading this, think "birthday present".)"
This was found at the very interesting looking BlankGrrl(huh?). Looks like someone is a FrontPage MASTER! Woo... lets see here. Open FrontPage, import www.evhead.com, change some text and graphics (not too many now), forget to change main graphic's ALT tag, slap a copyright notice on it, save as your own, upload, and enjoy.

Last night it was the Atroxi.com LIVE show and irc chat. Tonight I attended the blogIRC chat. I don't think I want to get into IRC again. IRC = bad if used too often. It is too easy to just sit and not be creative. Way too easy.

Well, it seems that my boss has fallen into the old "do as I say and not as I do" mentality. He wants me to come into work a half hour early and not go straight to the job I will be working on. Meanwhile, he is leaving for the job straight from his home. What am I doing in my half hour of extra time? You are reading it.

Found this (via Ev Head). Very interesting read.

I just want to remind everyone that the Atroxi.com Radio Show is LIVE tonight at 11:30pm EST. So go to their page and listen. Also, if you would be so kind, drop by the IRC channel. They want it filled with people tonight. The more the better. The server can be found on port 6667 at chat.hosting4u.net in channel #atroxi.
So show up and have fun. It really is a good show. I'll be there! :)

I am honored to be the first to recieve this award. Here is what they said about this little site:

Thanks. :)

I am not a photographer. 3 people have sent me email regarding the "sepia-toned design" around here. I wrote all of them back asking what the heck sepia is. Well, this morning I took it upon myself to find out. So I ran across Stepwise Sepia Toning and figured it out. Only one problem, it doesn't take me near that many steps to accomplish the same thing. Of course I am using Adobe ImageStyler and not Photoshop. Saves me mass ammounts of time, where Photoshop takes forever. Oh sure, I know that Photoshop is the more powerful and versitle of the 2. So, interesting find at 6:30am.

Bit of outside parody in the x-files tonight as well. Right at the beginning a guy is watching TV. The camera turns so you can see what he is watching. Lo and behold, he is watching Harsh Realm. He utters "This is great..." and the camera changes scene. Heh... Chris Carter isn't bitter... really.
--Update: Oh my god, even later into the episode Mulder asks the guy what he was watching. To which he replies, "I don't remember the name of it. It was good..." Damn! He is working it! Its like that 'I am going to lose my job anyway' mentality. Doesn't really matter what he does at this point, the X-Files is done as of the end of this season.

Oh man, the new Simpsons tonight is funny as all hell. I think the best part was when the un-named comic store owner showed up wearing a t-shirt with the phrase "Worst Episode Ever!" on it. Those of you who don't find this humorus need to not get out so much.

Theme song of the day; Come Join Us:
So you say you gotta know why the world goes around. And you can't find the truth in the things you've found. And you're scared sh*tless at the things you've found.
Come join us
Well I heard you were looking for a way to fit in. Full of adherent people with the same objective. A family to cling to and call brethen.
Come join us.
All we want to do is change your mind. All you need to do is close your eyes. So come join us.
Don't you see all the trouble that most people are in. And that they just want you for their own advantage. But I swear to you we're different from all of them.
Come join us.
I can tell you are looking for a way to live. Where truth is determined by consensus. Full of codified arbitrary directives.
Come join us.
All we want to have is your small mind. Turn it into one of our own kind. You can go through life adrift and alond. Desperate, desolate, on your own. But we're looking for a few more stalwart clones.
So come join us.
We've got spite and dedication as a vehement brew. The world hates us, well we hate them too. But you're exempted of course if you,
Come join us.
Independant, self-contented, revolutionary. Intellectual, brave, strong and scholary. If you're not one of them, you're us already so
COME JOIN US!

I had a very good lunch. Chris and I went to a toy store so he could buy Crazy Taxi. So while in there we noticed some new Matrix action figures! Kick ass, and only $9.99 each. There was Trinity, Cypher, Switch, Neo, Agent Smith and Morpheus. Sadly, it doesn't look like there is a Mouse, Tank, Dozer, or Apok. The clerk behind the counter was a very negative little bastard. Everything we said he would counter with "I thought that game sucked." I mean, wouldn't you try and be a little more positive and sell more product? He even said the Matrix sucks. What a tool.
Ah well, I also bought The SIMS. Too many games, so little time. I am still trying to finish FF8, Septerra Core, and keep on top of my EverQuest Character.

I am so sick of spam mail. It is to the point where I get more spam then regular email. So I am starting to fight back. It might take some extra time to research where exactly the email came from, but in the end I can find out. I will forward it to your ISP's abuse@ address. I don't care if your daddy gets mad because his internet account is cancled. I just don't care anymore.
Also, I am going to put together a little essay/thing explaining how YOU too can discover who is sending you spam. Look for that soon.
