Why is it that movies lately are nothing like they used to be? Every new movie I see I leave feeling somewhat cheated. What happened to following some sort of plot and not just trying to fit as much cool looking stuff into an hour and a half as possible? We saw Tomb Raider last weekend.. and during most of the movie I was trying to figure out what the shots were.. it was all going by too fast. Some of it was cool looking even though half the time I had no idea what was going on. Also, last night we saw A.I. I don't really know how I feel about the movie yet.. other than the fact that it should have ended about half an hour before it actually did. Some parts were great.. really neat looking. They brought in some sub plot (or at least so I though) regarding a murder.. but they never really went anywhere with it.. much to my dismay. Now I'm left wondering what happened to Gigolo Joe.. did he get arrested for the murder? What do they do with robots whom they think have done some kind of criminal act? Did he get distroyed? What happened?! Inquiring minds want to know. Lots of movies are doing this lately.. they're just kind of all over the place like they're trying to fit too much into a short ammount of time. I mean sure, cool looking movies are great sometimes.. but I'm more interested in the story. What happened to good old movies that rely more on the whole story/plot thing than effects? Is it not possible to have a cool looking movie that also actually follows some kind of storyline? Obviously this reflects the way society is today or at least the majority. We've become very visually stimulated. We see more and think less. "Who cares if the story was lacking.. did you *SEE* how hot it was?!" I don't know, I guess I prefer my imagination. Not that I'm saying cool looking movies are bad or anything.. I mean sometimes I'm all about something that looks totally cool and that's about it.. but really, does *EVERY* new movie have to be that way?

Tonight we get to go see the sneak preview of AI. There have even been rumors we will all walk away from the theatre with a gift of some sort. I still don't know what to expect though. In some ways I think it is going to be a very good movie, and in others I think I have been just a little too hyped up for it. That is never a good thing.

Last night was a lot of fun. I wasn't much impressed with the food, but I have never been all that into asian foods. I like more european foods I guess, and I like to play with flavors to come up with something new. I guess that is what $21,000 worth of Culinary School yields. But I am straying. Zannah, James, and Bry were a lot like Erin and I. Sarcastic, witty, humorus, and interesting. I didn't get to know Dan much, his bus driver was evil and led him astray. He did finally make it, but it took Bry's keen eye to spot him across the street passing the building we were in. Zannah dashed off to attract his attention so he could join us.

James paid for dinner. I didn't have the words to thank him properly. I felt like some bumbling idiot when we were all parting to go home, and I think I didn't even thank him for dinner. So, I guess I will have to be covert next time and pay for dinner before he can say anything. I need ninja training.

Well, we are in a money situation again this month. Mostly because of the higher cost of living here. I know Erin is pretty stressed about it. In fact, we really don't know how we are going to get through the month yet. I don't think it will be that big of a deal though. I have a TON (seriously, I have a lot) of CDs that I never listen to anymore. I am going to see if there is a place around town that will buy a bunch of used CDs.

Oh well, I don't know where I am going with this. I really don't have much to say today. Work is a bit stressing right now, and then there is the whole money thing and all. I just sat down and did a whole budget thing though (damn I am getting old... 1/4 century this year, ouch) and it said my expenses are less then my income. That is until you factor in the cost of cigarettes. Heh, with smokes we are in the hole about $200/month.

Oh, and we are supposed to go to dinner with Zannah, James, Dan, and Bry tomorrow night. I think. Zannah is pretty sick right now though, it seems. So we'll see tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, the Diablo2 expansion went gold late last week, and it will be in Seattle area stores tomorrow. Just sucks ass that we can't really afford to buy it till Friday. poo

The law is a code that isolates justice from public participation.
We demand that:

1. An independent commission be convened to investigate all claims made by Bob Kolody against Coca-Cola and Simon Marketing for the theft of his personal intellectual property.

2. The same independent commission investigate all counts of judicial perjury and fraud upon the Court brought by Dan Ivy against Coca-Cola, Simon Marketing and Judge Blanche Manning.

3. The same independent commission investigate Dan Ivy's denial by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and that he be granted full access to that bar unless a valid reason for his rejection can be demonstrated.

4. The SEC investigate, on behalf of the shareholders of Coca-Cola, the failure of the management to disclose the facts of the Kolody lawsuit and its $ 4 billion liability.

Let the games begin.

For as long as I can remember I've been intrigued by words. From certain words to the way words are put together to form sentences.. and from there paragraphs and so on. I think that's part of the reason I enjoy reading so much. And also part of the reason I wanted to be a writer (though that idea has gone completely down the toilet thanks to the internet for messing with the way I write). I also find it interesting how certain words hold different meanings for different people. My friends in Montreal had their own language pretty much.. and it was quite interesting.. though if anyone who was not a part of our group heard us talking they found us to be completely crazy and not to make much sense.. which isn't far from the truth. We made sense to each other.. but not to anyone else who might happen to hear our conversations. We'd constantly get stuck on certain words.. making up new words or new meanings for old ones. Anyway, my point is that I love words.. and today in between talking with old friends on ICQ I've been looking up some of my favourite words in some online dictionary.. and have managed to keep myself entertained all morning. I remember when I was a kid I could be entertained for hours with a dictionary and thesarus. Perhaps one of these days I'll try and get back into the whole writing thing.. *shrug*

DINASOURS WILL DIE
Adapted from the NOFX song of the same title

This is not a test on the emergency e/n system
This is the real thing

Sit back watch it crumble, see the drowning watch the fall
I feel just terrible about it, thats sarcasm, let it burn
Im gonna make a toast when it falls apart
Im gonna raise my glass above my heart
Then someone shouts "thats what they get!"
For all the years of hits and porn for all the piss broke sites on cjb
Where did all their traffic go dont we all know
Parasitic e/n community as it destroys itself
Well show them how its supposed to be

Posts written from devotion not ambition, not for fame
Zero sites are exploited there are no tricks up our sleeve
Were gonna fight against the pr0n appeal
Were gonna kill the network buyout deal
Make websites that have more then one goal
The dinosaurs will slowly die and I do believe no one will cry
Im just fucking glad Im gonna be there to watch the fall
Prehistoric e/n community three feet of chix and cars
Extinction never felt so good

If you think anyone will feel badly you are sadly mistaken
The time has come for evolution fuck illusion kill the pr0n sites
What ever happened to the blind link
Whatever happened to posts no one would hate
Whatever happened to integrity
Its still there it always was posting stories just because
A million reasons why all dinosaurs will die
Dinosaurs will die
Dinosaurs must die

So I just took this test to show me who my "Inner Rock Star" is.. and apparently it's.. Britney Spears. That couldn't be further from the truth. Not only can I not stand her.. but I am nothing like her. So I took it again.. and it's trying to tell me now that my "Inner Rock Star" is Sade. Come on! If I had to liken myself to a girl in the music industry I would have to pick Bif Naked. I mean she's cute and funny and has a bit of attitude and good style and all kinds of tattoos and piercings and honestly I can identify with her more than with anyone else in that industry. Not to mention I have been told by numerous people that I resemble her in a lot of ways. But Britney.. Sade.. ?! What's that all about?! *shakes head* Why I even bothered taking that test in the first place is beyond me.. the things I do when I wake up at 6am for no apparent reason what-so-ever..

What a trying week this has been so far. My computer at work seems to have it out for me. It is the wierdest thing I have ever seen. With the case on, it will lock up every 10-30 minutes. With the case off, it locks up maybe 3 times a week. So I was thinking it would be heat related. But after checking fans and such, it is actually warmer in there with the case off. There is no airflow, so it isn't heat. So then I was thinking it was shorting out on the case somewhere. Nope, the case cover only touches the case, not the system board or any thing else. So I am stumped. To make matters worse, it is evil enough to actually wait till I forget to save a document and THEN lock up. grrr

Other then my computer woes at work, things are going pretty well. It has been warm this week in Seattle. A bit warmer then I prefer, but oh well. Erin and I have pretty much worked out what we are going to do about the whole marrage/perminant resident stuff. And to top it all off we just got credited $542.53 by AT&T, who just happened to forget we are supposed to get 7 cents per minute international calles and were billing us for 90 cents per minute. OUCH! Our phone bill was $613.07! Well, after a few quick calls to AT&T and Qwest, we got back on the correct long distance plan and actually got Qwest to pre-credit the money AT&T is claiming we owe. So until AT&T post the credit, our phone bill is sitting with about $540 unaccounted for except for a note about a pending AT&T credit. But at least we didn't have to pay it.

Anyway, Gord and I have been exchanging emails as of late. Turns out he is also a new neighbor of mine. I think we need to organize some kind of huge Seattle/Vancouver get together. In Seattle of course! :)

Well, it seems there is quite a large group of people working on this AI promotional mystery. They are called Cloudmakers, named after Evan Chan's boat (the one he died on). They have a complete spoiler on what has been discovered so far, as well as a brief walkthrough that will help you with minimal information if you just want some help.

You could easily waste a whole weekend pouring through all the information here.

More interesting links involved in the AI story:

www.ita-es.ro
www.donutech.com
www.familiasalla-es.ro

Also, it seems there is a hacker named Loki hitting these sites. He leaves a piece of a picture puzzle on the sites he has hit. I started to notice them more and more as I went to more and more of the site links. They start to stick out.

More later, I guess my idea of doing real work this afternoon is shot to hell...

If you are in the US, call 1-503-321-5122 right now

What is that you ask? Well, it seems in the latest trailer for the movie AI, at the end when you see "Summer 2001" there are notches at the bottom that spell out this number. There is also a reference to a cast member named Jeanine Salla. Nothing notible there, until you realize her role for the movie is 'Sentient Machine Therapist.' Can I get a job description for that?

Next, look at the life dates for Evan Chan at his memorial site. So ok, now something is really getting wierd. From that page you can go to the Chan family homepage, which is again set in the distant future. Or you can go to a Yahoo discussion site. (warning, the yahoo site has gotten very overloaded with curious web surfers, and thus the serious posts are a little harder to find now.)

So, what the hell is all this? In short, it is the best marketing ploy since The Blair Witch Project. There is a whole network of websites, all in different languages and all posing as something unrelated to this story that have small hints on them. Start with the phone number. Start with the trailer. In the end, the big question is, who was Evan Chan? Why is Jeanine Salla the key? A Google search on "Jeanine Salla" yields interesting results. Don't forget to email Mother.

Currently I am unemployed (though not by choice) and during the day while Shawn is at work I often find myself getting rather bored.. so while waiting for him to come home I have to find ways to entertain myself. Lately I've been getting rather bored.. because I've been doing the same things over and over again for the past two months. So I have to try and find new and exciting was of entertaining myself.. I mean I could always waste my day watching TV or something.. but honeslty TV doesn't do much for me.. and more than anything annoys me. So when I get completely bored.. I search around looking for things to read.. as reading is a good way to pass one's time. So..

I've spent most of my day reading Douglas Coupland's webiste. I find him to be quite interesting.. as both author and person. I like the way he looks at things and writes about them. When he was doing his "Book Tour" for his last novel "Miss Wyoming" he came to Montreal (where I was currently living). Unfortunately, I missed it because I was back in my hometown of good old Thunder Bay.. hiding at my parent's house over the Xmas holidays from all the people in that city I didn't want to run into (which is a bit of a problem with a city as small as TBay.. I can't go anywhere without seeing someone I know.. even if it's just driving down the street and looking into the car driving next to me.. chances are.. I know the person in the other car). Anyway, that's my pointless little story about Douglas Coupland.. and I hope that one day I will get the chance to see him again. But if you're looking for some interesting reading.. fact or fiction.. check it out. I'm looking forward to his new book "All Families Are Psychotic" which should be coming out in September. Wheee!!

I like her because she's real. My friend and I were discussing her the other day.. and we've decided that we both like her because she's got "it".. she's real.. she's natural.. we can identify with her.. she's got problems and she isn't afriad to admit it. I admire her. Oh, and she's hot (especially with dark hair)!

Nice, my friend [name hidden] just called me. She is going to surprise her boyfriend, [name hidden], with a trip up here to visit for about a week in mid July. They were going to come on the 7th, but because of the Baseball All-Star game, there isn't one hotel room available in all of Seattle. Let alone a whole week worth of rooms. So, the second weekend in July will have to do.

Either way, this is good news. I don't know anyone in this town yet, other then the people I work with. I doubt any of them (all a lot older then me) will be going out with Erin and I anytime soon. Maybe I can convince BrainDan to hang out sometime. Start building some connections around here or something. I hear he is available to hire as a ghetto wedding witness...

Ok, maybe this was in bad taste. It really is a good idea. Just seems kind of wierd that they would resort to e-mail. Why not just give every crew member a Nextel phone and let them 2-way radio it? Oh, that's right... Nextel doesn't even work properly in their "servicable area" most of the time.

Now we are really back. Welcome to the fresh new Slightly North of Tomorrow. It really has been a hard few months without this site. And a lot has happened in those months. I was laid off from my second job in 3 months. Because of the technology market in Denver, I was tempted with a job offer in Seattle. So here I am. Seattle is a lot like Denver really. I like it, but don't really know anyone yet. Well, the people I work with, but they don't count.

Erin is now living with me. She made the move from Montreal around the middle of April. We have been playing a lot of Diablo2 lately. mostly because neither of us know anyone here, and we really don't have much money right now. Still, as long as we are together, it really doesn't matter what we are doing.

Little late, but goodbye Denver. Thanks for the memories.
