Well, now that the traffic from that retarded Survivorcam site has stopped, I guess I will start posting again. Not that they caused me to stop really. I have been sickly for some of last week and so far all of this week. I have this horrid cough that keeps me up all night, even after taking Green Death NyQuil before bed.

So lets see, what has happened that I need to catch up on...

Last weekend we went out with Dan and Bryan. We went to Jillian's for a little bit but got bored. So we headed off to Alki beach for some dinner at the Lighthouse Grill. After that we hit the Starbucks for some coffee and drank it down by the water. I think we ended up sitting there for 2.5 hours talking. It was nice until this Lincoln Navigator Limo thing pulled up and about 30 teenagers got out and started attracting attention. I saw a couple of them run down to the water and start pissing into the bay. What fucking nerve do you need to have to pee in public? So then 5 or so more guys starting peeing in the grass up by the limo. I was tempted to call the cops. Dan was making all kinds of jokes about how it was the "Seattle Pee Tour" and all the do is drive around to local landmarks and pee on them. Too funny.

I didn't work on Monday or (most of) Tuesday this week. My cough was kicking my ass all night and I think I maybe got all of 4 hours sleep in those 2 nights. Erin finally convinced me to get something to help me sleep. So I bought some TheraFlu and some NyQuil. I tried the TheraFlu the first night, and I did sleep. It tasted like total crap though, and the next morning I woke up with the feeling that someone had squeezed a rotten lemon into the back of my throat. Yucky. So the next night I went with the NyQuil. No nasty taste in my mouth the next morning, however I felt like I had a hangover for the better part of the morning.

Wednesday night Erin and I went and saw Douglas Coupland at the Elliot Bay Book Store downtown. I have only read one of his books, but I found him to be a very interesting person. He was funny but really scattered. The signs of a true genius. Before that started, Erin and I were out in SouthCenter at the Bed Bath and Beyond looking for a good pot in which to make Chai. We ended up getting this really nice 10 peice set for only $49.99. So we threw away all the crappy cookware we were using. Erin made a comment that us going into a kitchenware store is not a safe thing when we are watching our spending habits. So on our way home, Jish calls to inform us he is in town. Cool, so we go to the reading and then meet Jish for drinks after. We talked with Jish for a few hours and then headed home for the evening.

Yesterday, the lot of us got together at Jillians for some pool. I wasn't playing very well until I was playing against Zannah. You see, she is a better then the rest of us. She even has her own pool cue. So I was ready to lose the game. However, I cleaned up about halfway through the game and ended up winning in the end. So we dubbed my cue the "Zannah Slayer." After we got tired of pool we headed over to this family style Italian place for some food. It was very loud but isn't that how an Italian joint is supposed to be?

Quite the week it has been so far, lots of ups and downs. We should be finishing up Erin's paperwork this weekend (I promise this time) and get that sent off on Monday. I want to get it over so we don't have to worry about it anymore. And maybe once we both have jobs I can try and finance that green New Beetle I have been wanting. :)

America: The Good Neighbor

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair a Canadian Television commentator. What follows is the full text of his broadcast.

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy and you get automobiles.

You talk about American technocracy and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again.

You talk about scandals and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those.

Stand proud, America!

Here in Seattle, I guess a lot of people are feeling the pain of yesterday's events. However, most of us are so removed from it, we really haven't felt the weight of it yet. So I guess in that light what I just heard really really scares me. All day, the woman who sits near me has been listening to 710KIRO. Right now they are sort of taking calls from the public in between updates from CBS news, trying to hear how people are trying to cope with everything right now. So they take a call from a guy who's brother-in-law is one of the firefighters who are currently unaccounted for. This guy was not thinking rational thoughts. He is basically calling for the heads of our government and the heads of whoever organized these attacks. He wants blood. The radio finally had to cut this guy off because his language was no longer acceptable for public radio.

Now, on one hand I can see where this guy is coming from. He just lost his brother-in-law, his sister just lost her husband, and her kids just lost their father. This guy is looking for someone, ANYONE, to be accountable for his death. It could be his boss, his neighbor, the government, or terrorists. I don't think at this point he cares who it is. His mind is trying to grasp this whole image and make some sense out of why all of this is happening. He wants a reason so he can come to terms with it in his own mind, and be able to move on to helping his sister and her kids cope with their loss.

On the other hand, his reaction scares me to death. What if our government, or worse the American public, decide to adopt this thinking. We will quickly bomb the fuck out of something, ANYTHING, in order to get a quick revenge. Should the public lose faith in how the government is handling this situation, who knows what is going to happen. The hate this guy is harboring is exactly what these terrorists want. The want the American public to feel what they have been going through. They want the American public to be divided against each other. The worst part of all this are the uneducated people out there who are harassing their neighbors, fellow mass transit passengers, customers, and friends simply because they LOOK Arab. I guess someone needs to come out and say this: NOT ALL PEOPLE WHO "LOOK" LIKE THEY "MIGHT" COME FROM THE MIDDLE EAST ARE GUN TOTING TERRORISTS WHO VIEW AMERICANS AS POWER HUNGRY GODLESS PIG DOGS!!! My heart goes out to Jish today. I totally forgot what he might have to go through in the next while because of this. Because I don't see Jish as a nationality. I see Jish as a friend, regardless of his background, heritage, skin color, or beliefs. Some people are just so uneducated they don't realize there are more then just terrorists in the Middle East. Some of these same people went into the Gulf War to help liberate Kuwait. Um, what the fuck were the people in Kuwait? They sure as hell were not chinese. Ugh, I'm not even going to go off about that right now.

Personally I think the American government is going to handle things a bit more calmly. Even though I caught a hint of wishful revenge in Powell's tone of voice today as he addressed the media, I think (and hope) the government is going to handle things a bit better. I think they are going to find that bin Laden was behind this. Further I think if they do find it was him, the government is going to try and get Afghanistan to give him up before they resort to violence. Should Afghanistan admit that they are harboring bin Laden and will not give him up, I think there is going to be hell to pay. Also on the plate is the executive order against tactical assassinations performed by the US. Should that order be reversed, Castro better run for fucking cover fast. Because after they are done killing off all the threats in the Middle East, someone in the CIA is going to realize they now have a political green light to off Castro.

Big things will come of this terrorist act. Lets just all hope one of those big things is not war.

Scratch that... both towers are gone. All aircraft in the country is grounded, except for military fighters over Washington DC. Even Canadian airports are now closing as well. American Airlines is holding a press confrence this morning because one of their planes crashed into Camp David (the presidential vacation spot) as well this morning. New Yorkers are being hearded outside of Manhattan onto the other side of Canal street. However, they can't go anywhere. All bridges and tunnels have been sealed. You can not leave New York City. Nor can you get in. Early reports are speculating the death toll could be as much as 30,000 people. And, as I was typing this I just heard on National Public Radio that although planes crashed into the tops of the buildings, there must have been some other kind of explosive a bit later to level both towers the way they did. Also, 2 American Airlines planes were confirmed by American Airlines to have been hijacked killing at least 164 passengers as well as the hijackers. One into the WTC south tower, and the other into Camp David.

Personally I think someone is going to get bombed back to the dark age should the government find out who exactly is responsible. Think about it. When Pearl Harbor has attacked, it was just a remote military base in the south Pacific. These attacks this morning are at very symbolic national landmarks. The World Trade Center is the prominant symbol of the stock market and economy of the US. Camp David, the presidential retreat. The Pentagon, home of the CIA. Western PA, a large plane has crashed at a small airport that doesn't normally handle large commercial aircraft. Someone is sending a message, and they have been planning this for quite a while. The first thing I thought of was the McVay issue. Now though, I'm not sure. Either way, the media is having a field day with this, and some are even saying "we are now at war." I hate the media.

Here in Seattle, the Bank of America tower has been closed. At least I don't have to worry about Bryan and James all day.

I'm not going to provide a link, because all you really have to do is go to ANY news site to read about it. 2 planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York this morning. First a small commuter plane followed very swiftly by a 767 who's flight came from Boston. A few minutes later, another small commuter plane crashed into the Pentagon. And it took Bush all of 20 minutes to declair this is a terrorist attack. The first major attack on US soil since Pearl Harbor.

45 minutes after the second plane crashed into the Trade Center, the south tower collapsed. Imagine what the New York skyline is going to look like with only 1 WTC Tower. Creepy.

Well, in about 20 minutes we are off to Bellevue to the Humane Society. We are going to adopt an adult cat. Female one (because they are nicer). Erin says she will know which one she wants when she sees it.

Better then getting a dog though.

TOASTER: Howdy doodly do! How's it going? I'm Talkie -- Talkie Toaster, your chirpy breakfast companion. Talkie's the name, toasting's the game. Anyone like any toast?
LISTER: Look, _I_ don't want any toast, and _he_ (indicating KRYTEN) doesn't want any toast. In fact, no one around here wants any toast. Not now, not ever. NO TOAST.
TOASTER: How 'bout a muffin?
LISTER: OR muffins! OR muffins! We don't LIKE muffins around here! We want no muffins, no toast, no teacakes, no buns, baps, baguettes or bagels, no croissants, no crumpets, no pancakes, no potato cakes and no hot-cross buns and DEFINITELY no smegging flapjacks!
TOASTER: Aah, so you're a waffle man!
LISTER: (to KRYTEN) See? You see what he's like? He winds me up, man. There's no reasoning with him.
KRYTEN: If you'll allow me, Sir, as one mechanical to another. He'll understand me. (Addressing the TOASTER as one would address an errant child) Now. Now, you listen here. You will not offer ANY grilled bread products to ANY member of the crew. If you do, you will be on the receiving end of a very large polo mallet.
TOASTER: Can I ask just one question?
KRYTEN: Of course.
TOASTER: Would anyone like any toast?
KRYTEN: Didn't you HEAR what I just said?
TOASTER: Yes, but I thought you might have changed your mind in the meantime.
LISTER: You see? You see what he's like?
KRYTEN: (Exasperated) We haven't changed our mind!
LISTER: NO TOAST!
TOASTER: But I am a toaster. It is my /raison d'etre/. I toast, therefore I am. If you don't want any toast, why did you repair me?
LISTER: Yeah, why did you repair him?
KRYTEN: He's a guinea pig for a technique called "Intelligence Compression." His AI chips were very badly damaged in the accident.
TOASTER: But that was no accident! That was first-degree toastercide!
