Sonos

Erin and I want this wireless audio player for our new home. Of course, we need to close first. Sonos is sweet!

Mutual Acceptance

We got mutual acceptance on our offer with the seller! That means we are 50% of the way done with the buying process! We get to have the proerty inspected on Tuesday and barring any serious problems, we are done! It has been a stressful week, but we are finally almost done. The seller agreed to pay up to $6500 of our closing costs as well. With the zero down mortgage we are getting, that means we won't have to pay any money at closing. Erin and I are elated. More later.

Major financial decision

Erin and I made an offer on a $270,000 home yesterday. We took a home-buying class last Saturday and made an offer only a week later. We have never purchased a house before. We are so nervous! Though, to make it a bit better, we have hired one of the best Realtors in the Seattle area. He is a stickler for the details and really knows all the tricks in the home buying process. Right now we are just waiting for the seller to accept our offer, which should happen today if all goes well. Fingers crossed!

Florida Uber Allies

The U.S. Supreme Court, without comment, refused today to hear a constitutional challenge to a 1977 Florida law that bans gays and lesbians from adopting children. Florida is the ONLY state to have such a law. The law's sponsor, Florida Sen. Curtis Peterson, said at the time the purpose of the legislation was to send a message to gays and lesbians that "we're really tired of you. We wish you'd go back into the closet." This law sacrifices the interests of children in order to uphold the rigid religious belief that someone who thinks differently is evil.

Isn't this the same state that has a law banning oral sex? What the hell is wrong with Florida? Why does anyone other than hillbilly hicks still live there? In the past, I have ranked California (mostly because of the LA area) as the last place I would want to live. I think Florida has just claimed the #1 spot. Ruled by a Bush though, so I guess it is par for the course.

And the fact that the US Supreme Court refuses to even hear the case just blows me away. You know that if a state made it illegal for a catholic to adopt a child it would get overturned in an instant. But no, somehow the religious portion of this country have a strangle hold on the laws that are past in most areas. Our leaders are either as retarded as Jerry Fallwell or scared to death that religious voters will elect someone else. What we need is a Supreme court who isn't comprised of members still living in the 1920's. The system would work a lot better if we had a justice system that wasn't so out of touch with reality.

Anyway, it makes me sick to live in this country sometimes. At least I live in a (mostly) sane state...
